About this SSIP Approval

Imroc Ltd has, during the last 12 months, successfully passed an assessment against the CDM Core Criteria (Stage 1), carried out by Altius, an SSIP accredited assessment provider.

SSIP promotes mutual recognition between health & safety assessment providers and is backed by the HSE. All SSIP accredited assessment providers undergo an annual audit, to ensure that they are assessing to the required standard.

Scope of SSIP Certification
CDM Principal Contractor
Product / Service
Professional Services > Construction Services > Principal Contractor (CDM)
1) Oil spill response - Whilst Imroc is not an emergency response contractor providing 24-hour service, we nonetheless have a wealth of both hands-on and advisory experience in oil spill clean-up and containment. We are fully equipped to provide immediate response services if called upon and can take care of all necessary short-term response tasks in most inland spillage scenarios where losses are less than 3,000 litres in volume. 2) Investigation services - We provide a full site investigation service including interviewing of all relevant parties; site surveying; desk studies; in-situ testing; sample collection (via sub-contracted mechanical drilling where necessary); handling of sample analyses through an external laboratory and the production of clear concise reports. We aim to ensure that investigations are comprehensive and efficient but not wasteful in areas such as costly sample analysis and excessive time on site. The level of risk assessment and detail in reports is tailored to the nature and scale of the incident. In worst case scenarios and in conjunction with an independent hydrologist, a full quantitative risk assessment model can be compiled if necessary to determine remedial targets. 3) Remediation - physical - Physical solutions to oil contamination scenarios arguably produce the most reliable result where finite project duration and costs are concerned. Thus Imroc’s core remedial services focus on this pragmatic approach and on implementing works to a high standard. Frequently the remedial works involve simply the direct removal of the contamination, e.g brick-work or soils, followed by a high quality reinstatement of the site. Other remedial techniques however can include permanent barriers, the installation of vapour suppressing membranes and even full incarceration of the contamination. It is a common misrepresentation to suggest that physical remedial methodologies mean higher cost than the alternatives. The greater reliability of these solutions frequently proves its worth over treatment orientated solutions where timescales can be undesirably flexible and therefore costs can be indefinite. 4) Remediation - treatment solutions - Advancements in remediation technology and permitting requirements mean that today Imroc’s in-situ treatment works are limited to the recovery of oils via the use of oil/water separators where the deployment of oleophillic absorbents is not suitable; plus also basic small scale flushing schemes, cleaning and stain removal. The benefit is that on significant land and/or groundwater pollution cases which require sophisticated remedial techniques, e.g. dual-phase vapour extraction, Imroc is excellently placed to procure the best and most cost effective remediation contractor for our client, rather than them being stuck with the incumbent multi-disciplined consultant whose technical field services may not represent the best value for money. Furthermore, separating this work out so that it is overseen by the Principal Contractor can also be favourable for the client with respect to monitoring the quality/effectiveness of what is being done and because it does away with any potential conflict of interest.
